Recovery and Healing:

The Power of Admitting Powerlessness.

What is “Powerlessness” in Recovery?

Powerlessness refers to the realisation that our human efforts can become futile and that we cannot control certain outcomes.

🤓 Misconceptions About Powerlessness:

Many people see powerlessness as a reflection of their own failure, or impotence, which can negatively impact their self-worth.

💡 However, instead of internalising feelings of helplessness or inadequacy when admitting powerlessness over harmful behaviours, substance use, or disorders, it’s essential to shift our perspective.

❗ The Truth About Powerlessness:

Admitting that we are powerless over certain things does not mean we are weak. On the contrary, it demonstrates emotional intelligence and bravery. Recognising the illusion of control we attempt to maintain over aspects of life beyond our reach does not indicate incompetence; rather, it empowers us to focus on what we can control. This shift allows toxic influences to dissipate and creates space for healthier realities, where new possibilities and positive outcomes can emerge.

🪷 Letting Go of Control:

Managing our need for control requires a conscious decision to release it. Healing involves surrendering.

If we aspire to create extraordinary lives—living truthfully and healthily, free from the constraints of harmful behaviours, substances, or past traumas—we must admit our powerlessness and let go.

Ultimately, acknowledging powerlessness can be personally empowering after all! 💪🏼✨
